Tap Portugal UK, commonly known as TAP is the national carrier of Portugal. It is located in building 25 of the airport . The company itself is known as  Transportes Aéreos Portugueses, SGPS, S.A. which was founded 66 years ago on 14th of March 1945. It is a custodian of the rich Portuguese culture and is connecting Portugal to the world since. It is flying to eighty cities ion the world in thirty six countries. It also has flights connecting via Porto and Funchal. Its frequent flyer program is known as TAP Victoria.

The company was originally known as Transportes Aéreos Portuguese (Portuguese Air Transportations). It changed its name to TAP air Portugal to adjust to the global expansion and finally adopted the reduced form TAP Portugal. According to government plans, Tap Portugal has been earmarked to be privatised.

In the year 2010 TAP Portugal has started flying to new destinations in Africa like Accra, Abidjan, Marrakesh and Algiers. The inauguration of these new routes is a manifestation of  TAP Portugal ‘s growth strategy for Africa. Africa is the only continent in the TAP Portugal network where the airline has constantly expanded since 2001. In 2001 the number of TAP Portugal’s Africa passengers was 236,000 which has jumped to 541,000 passengers, a surge of more than 129%. With a 6.4% rise in 2009 alone. New long haul routes have already been started in 2011, viz. Miami and Porto Alegrel by TAP Portugal.
